A 1931 landmark, two blocks from the floor

The Netherland Plaza is one of the finest surviving examples of French Art Deco anywhere in the world, and it is a National Historic Landmark.

It opened in 1931 as part of the Carew Tower complex, an early attempt at what would later be called a city within a city: hotel, offices, shops and restaurants in a single connected development. The idea predates Rockefeller Center, which borrowed the same thinking a few years later. When it opened, the building drew comparisons to King Solomon’s Temple, which tells you something about the ambition involved.

Almost none of it has been lost. The interiors carry Brazilian rosewood, marble, custom nickel silver fixtures, and stylized Egyptian and floral motifs throughout. The Palm Court holds a Rookwood Pottery fountain and historic murals depicting the city’s history, with live music on weekend evenings. The Hall of Mirrors, the hotel’s ballroom, was modeled on its namesake at the Palace of Versailles.

The Carew Tower Observation Deck is in the same complex, and dining is on site at The 1931.

Two blocks from the exhibit floor, about a four minute walk, at the corner of Fifth and Race. Worth walking through the lobby even if you stay elsewhere.

Parking

Valet: 418 Race St (located underneath the hotel). Guests will see the valet entrance on the left side of Race St with a big green arrow pointing downward into the garage. The valet garage is connected to the Hilton & is on the Lower Level (LL). One block east of the First Financial Center on West Fifth Street, the Hyatt Regency is the shortest walk to the show floor of any hotel in the block. Roughly two minutes, door to door.

Guest rooms have been recently renovated. The hotel has an indoor heated saline pool with an outdoor sundeck, a 24 hour StayFit fitness center, and Red Roost Tavern on site for breakfast and dinner. Suites run over 1,000 square feet with a wet bar, if you are hosting a team or holding informal meetings outside the exhibit hall.
