I. General This document establishes the Awards Committee and defines its authority and its various responsibilities. The Awards Committee is a permanent, standing PIA committee. Nothing herein is meant to conflict with the association's by-laws or articles of incorporation. In the event of such conflict, the by-laws or articles of incorporation shall take precedence. II. Purpose The main purpose of presenting awards is to bring attention to the parachute community and the PIA. When individuals are honored, the press covers the event and the result is both print and broadcast coverage of parachutes and skydiving. The primary goal of the Awards Committee is to acknowledge, recognize and honor our members for their contributions to parachutes and skydiving. The committee shall make award nominations to the PIA membership and shall establish new PIA awards. The Awards Committee shall research the efforts of members and recommend that individuals and groups be recognized for their achievements in and contributions to parachuting and skydiving. III. Organization. The Awards Committee shall consist of an elected Chair and at least two other members appointed by the Chair. The PIA Awards Committee shall recommend nominees for PIA consideration for PIA and other industry awards, medals and other special recognition. 1. PIA members are encouraged to submit suggested nominees to the PIA Awards Committee Chair on the Nomination Submission Form with appropriate attachments. 2. After a review of all nominees proposed, the Awards Committee shall propose nominees for each award to the PIA plenary session. 3. Once nominations are approved by majority vote at a PIA plenary session, the committee chair shall forward an appropriate letter of recommendation to the awarding body in support of each candidate, together with necessary supporting documents and evidence. 4. The chair will then follow up personally if necessary with each of the aviation organizations sponsoring the various national and international awards, to ensure that PIA nominees are properly evaluated. IV. Awards List 1. Parachute Industry Association Awards. 2. Awards made by other organizations for which PIA members may be eligible. PIA can bring attention to it members and to the parachute industry by submitting nomination for awards made by other organizations. |
